2011 proved to be an incredible year for the New Orleans Film Society and the New Orleans Film Festival. As New Orleans’ profile as an epicenter for film production grows, so does its reputation as a first-class city for film exhibition. With over 180 stunning films to choose from, there is literally something for everyone in this year’s lineup.

John Goodman to be named New Orleans Film Society's 2011 Celluloid Hero

My daughter's film is up for an award.

 Her name is Kayla Elorza and her film is, "Stories from the Sleeping Mind." Her film is in the Animated Shorts and it will be showed Saturday, Oct. 15 12PM  and Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 5:30PM at the Theaters at Canal Place

In the program it's listed on page 68.

Congratulations Kayla, and Good luck baby, you deserve to win! 

Kayla's film is the one in the middle of the page with the Hippos.

 

Stories from the Sleeping Mind, is a film Kayla wrote after studying at NOCCA.  She studied under Mr. Paul Werner, who is an amazing teacher at NOCCA.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards 2011 in New York, both Kayla and Mr Werner won Gold!

College Age & Young Adult Room Mates Wanted

Hello, y'all!

I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath single home in Gentilly, "a part of New Orleans" I am wanting to rent the rooms to (3) college students. This house is located about 5 minutes from UNO, 5 minutes from the lakefront, and about 10 minutes or less from the French Quarter. The house is only minutes from a grocery store, coffee shop, and restaurants.  And there is off road parking, a bus stop less then 1/4 of a block away and the neighborhood is  bike friendly too.

Much more privacy then living in a dorm!

The rent is $500 a month and the security deposit is $400.  Included in rent is your own private bedroom, a bathroom to share with the other room mate, all utilities, and wireless internet. There is also a furnished kitchen you're free to use including a microwave. You will need to buy your own food and either work out a schedule for the kitchen or maybe work together cooking with the other room-mates. There is also a washer and dryer you can use, and you'll only need your own detergent and any other personal items you use.  The house has a fenced in back-yard with a patio in the back.  If you should smoke you'll be asked to please smoke out-side on either the front or back patio.  There are no pets allowed.

There is one student, "My daughter" already living in one of the 3 bedrooms now, she is a college student who will be going to UNO.  

She is a very mature 18 year old who is studying film and takes her school/studies very serious.  Many of her films have won awards and been used for TV commercials. She is quite friendly, respectful of others' space, and only asks the same in return. So, in other words please don't judge her by her age.   It's not important if you are male or female, straight or gay, only that you're easy to get a long with, you respect other people's personal boundaries and their property.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced that it will be holding its second annual gun buyback program with the intention of removing guns from the street and increasing resident safety.

Last year’s program resulted in the removal of 500 weapons. Although the impact of such programs on actual crime statistics is uncertain, the Sheriff’s Office maintains that the service provides value to the community.
The Program will be hosted in locations on both sides of the river:
SATURDAY (1/8/11) AT 9AM:
 
Westbank: Second Zion Baptist Church – 6520 Second Zion Avenue in Marrero

Eastbank: Marine Baptist Church – 3034 Andover St in Metairie

Residents who would like to participate in the program are asked that weapons be brought in working condition, wrapped in some sort of covering, and transported in the trunk of a vehicle. No questions will be asked as to the origins of the weapons.

The Gun Buyback Program will offer $50 cash for rifles, handguns, and shotguns and $200 cash for assault weapons. The program will remain in operation until funds are exhausted.
