WARNING BEETLES FOUND IN BABY FORMULA!!!
You read that right, Bugs!
Illinois-based Abbott Laboratories recalled about 5 million containers of Similac powdered formula on Wednesday as a precaution after small beetles or their larvae were found in a section of an Abbott plant in Sturgis, Mich. Two consumers also reported contamination, according to media reports.
The recall affects powdered Similac in plastic containers and in cans that are size 8 ounces, 12.4 ounces and 12.9 ounces.
No liquid formula sold by Similac was affected by the recall.
Abbott spokeswoman Melissa Brotz told Reuters that after the problem was identified, all product on the Michigan factory line was tested, and 99.8 percent tested negative for contamination. She said the type of beetle discovered is common in in houses, office buildings and grocery stores.
Abbott said it has been working closely with the Food and Drug Administration, which has “determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat.”
Refusal to eat? No kidding. "ya think"
