I've come across a great deal being offered right now for over 1/2 price off.
ScanDigital is offering a deal on Groupon it's listed in Philadelphia, but it's everywhere. 

They will take a huge number of your pictures, negatives, 8mm tapes and VHS family tapes.  Even ones that may be somewhat grainy too!  They'll list all of these on DVD's even giving you still shoots from your movies.  Then they'll send them and all your originals back to you with colorful covers.  The $100 credit covers a lot of conversion. There is a chart on their website showing how many VHS tapes or 8 mm movies you can get for the $100 voucher. 
From what I see it's a huge amount for only $40!
